Uncommon section of an original tracking station printout for the Mercury-Atlas 9 mission on May 15-16, 1963, when pilot Gordon Cooper and his Faith 7 spacecraft made a total of 22 orbits around the Earth. The printout, 32 x 16, features readings for “Resp. Rate,” “EKG Chest,” “EKG/Blood Press.,” “Sig. STG,” and “Sig. STG .S [5].” The left side bears pencil markings for the respective reading and is annotated, “End Post Cal, Pass 21.” The printout features an affixed “Post Flight” information sheet that contains the following information: “Recorder: Sanborn,” “System: Telemetry,” “Paper Speed: 10mm/sec,” “Station No.: RTK Range Tracker,” “Mission No.: MA-9,” “Pass No.: 21,” “Date: 16 May,” and “Time of Calib.: 215000 Z.”
The printout was mailed to Cooper by a friend and fellow member of the 86th Fighter Bomber Group, who included a handwritten letter to Cooper forwarding the printout, in part: “Aside from congratulations on your trip there is another reason for this note. The Pacific ‘Range Tracker’ was in here and they had a piece of tape that they had recorded on your 21st pass. I’m sure you have all kinds of types of info but thought you might like another souvenir.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed to “Maj. L. Gordon Cooper, NASA Space Center,” postmarked from Kwajalein, Hawaii, on June 25, 1963.
