Description

Calibration mask designed for the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, measuring approximately 16˝ in diameter and 1.25˝ thick, featuring a mirror finish on one side and a black matte finish on the other. Cut into the circle are precise slots that, when placed in the telescope’s optical path, create a known pattern of X-rays on its detectors, allowing scientists to check alignment, focus, and detector performance. Launched in 1999, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory is the world's most powerful X-ray telescope and NASA’s flagship space telescope for X-ray astronomy, used to study high-energy phenomena such as black holes and supernovae.
