Description

Handsome 1:100 scale model of the Buran OK-GLI, a Soviet atmospheric test vehicle of the orbital Buran spacecraft that was developed in response to the American Space Shuttle program. The hand-painted model, measuring 9.5˝ in length with a 6.5˝ wingspan, is crafted from composite materials and mounted on a metal display stand that allows the model to reach a maximum height of 6.5˝. In fine condition.

Also known as the Buran Analog BTS-02, the OK-GLI first launched on November 10, 1985, and flew a total of 25 test flights before its retirement on April 15, 1988. A powerful spacecraft, the OK-GLI was fitted with four AL-31 jet engines mounted at the rear (the fuel tank for the engines occupied a quarter of the cargo bay), which allowed the Buran to take off under its own power for flight tests, in contrast to the American Enterprise test vehicle, which was entirely unpowered and relied on an air launch. The original Buran OK-GLI is on permanent display at the Technik Museum Speyer, Germany.
