Three draft TLSs as president, each one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, dated from February 4–6, 1935, all with corrections in Roosevelt's hand. Includes:
- Draft TLS signed "Franklin D. Roosevelt" (scribbled out), to Secretary of State Thomas L. Dawson, in part: "Will you please convey my thanks to the Members of the Senate and House of Delegates of the State of Maryland for Joint Resolution No. 2 of the General Assembly. I deeply appreciate the expressions of confidence and support contained in the resolution and sincerely regret that the pressure of official business precludes acceptance of their cordial invitation. [Because the Congress is in session I, handwritten] cannot plan any trips in addition to those now under contemplation."
- Draft TLS signed "Franklin," to Maryland Governor Harry W. Nice, in part: "I have just written to Secretary of State Dawson, conveying my appreciation and telling him that because [of the Congressional situation, struck through] and the accumulation of work confronting me it is literally impossible for me to plan any trips in addition to those under contemplation."
- Draft TLS signed "Franklin D. Roosevelt" (scribbled out), to Congressman Alfred F. Beiter, in part: "With reference to your letter of January thirtieth, I am pleased to advise that the Home Owner's Loan Corporation will present to Congress in a few days [a request, handwritten] for an increase in their authorized bond issuance. [This request, handwritten] will be discussed by the Banking and Currency Committee of the House and Senate one day this week." Roosevelt strikes through the final line: "I will ask Congress to give the bill prompt consideration."
In overall very fine condition.
