Postmaster general, secretary of war, and secretary of state under George Washington (1745–1829). Third-person ADS, one page, 7.75 x 3.75, January 20, 1784. Revolutionary War-era receipt for the army's purchase of forage, penned by Pickering and incorporating his signature within the text. In part: "No. 136, Newburgh, January 20th: 1784, Received of Timothy Pickering QMG & D. Wolfe six hundred and fifty eight dollars…being the sum paid for forage & purchas'd the use of the army from 15 May 1783 to this day." In fine condition. Encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as "GEM MT 10."
