Explorer and pilot (1888–1957) who claimed to be the first to reach the North and South Poles by air. TLS signed “Dick B.,” one page, 8 x 7.5, Byrd Antarctic Expedition letterhead, August 16, 1830. Letter to Dr. Isaiah Bowman, founding director of the American Geographical Society, in part: "How are you old fellow? Did you get my several letters? Have thought of you often and am looking forward to seeing you." Matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 19.25 x 12.25. In fine condition.
