(United Artists, 1978) Extremely rare original production cel of a Nazgul, the Black Rider, from the 1978 Lord of the Rings animated feature, directed by Ralph Bakshi, based on the J.R.R. Tolkien classic. The cel is placed on a color copy background. Image measures 12.25 x 9.25, with overall dimensions of 13.75 x 11. In fine condition. The film is notable for its extensive use of rotoscoping, a technique in which scenes are first shot in live-action, then traced onto animation cels. It uses a hybrid of traditional cel animation and rotoscoped live-action footage.
