British author (1849-1924) of such children's classics as The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and A Little Princess. Three items, two one-page ALSs and an AQS, each signed by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The first ALS, 4.75 x 7.5, December 11, 1879, sent to the editor of the New York Times: “I am at present busily engaged in writing my new novel & have for that account so far refused to attend to my other work.” The second ALS, 4.5 x 2.75, no date, quick handwritten letter to Mr. Rice: “With much pleasure since by an odd coincidence you bear the name of one of my most intimate and valued friends.” The AQS, penned in ink on an off-white 6.75 x 3.25 sheet, quotes a line from her 1881 novel Through One Administration: “‘No one honest human being can trust another honest human being too much.’” In overall fine condition.
