Description

Six items signed by cartoonists spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. Includes:

Thomas Nast
Influential political cartoonist and illustrator considered to be the 'Father of the American Cartoon' (1840-1902). Bank check, 8.25 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Nast, “Th: Nast,” payable to H. E. Hooper for $5, March 11, 1897.

Ernie Bushmiller
Creator of the comic strip 'Nancy' (1905-82). Original hand-colored ink sketch of the curly-haired Nancy and Sluggo accomplished by Bushmiller on an off-white 10.5 x 4.75 card, boldly signed and inscribed in ink, "To our good friend Colonel Shaler—with best wishes from Nancy and Sluggo—Ernie Bushmiller."

C. D. Bachelor
Pulitzer Prize–winning editorial cartoonist (1888–1977) best known for his work with the New York Daily News. ANS on his 3.5 x 2 personal business card, in full: "Dear Bob—Many of these you are in part responsible for. I hope you will find the format to your liking. Cordially, Batch."

Joseph Keppler
Austro-American cartoonist, caricaturist, and founder of the humorous weekly 'Puck' (1838-94). Ink signature, "Jos. Keppler," on an off-white 4 x 2.25 card.

Chris Browne
Cartoonist, illustrator, and writer of the syndicated cartoon strip 'Hagar the Horrible' (1952-2023). Hand-colored 11.5 x 15.25 copy of a full Hagar strip, signed in blue felt tip, “Very Best Wishes! Chris Browne,” with a TLS enclosing the strip for a celebrity charity auction.
