Dignified wet plate albumen 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo featuring a half-view portrait of George Armstrong Custer in double breasted uniform coat with shoulder knots and aiguillettes. In fine condition, with pencil notations on the reverse. This view was taken by William R. Howell, about April 23, 1876, during Custer's last-ever photo session. Just a little over two months after sitting for this portrait, Custer would meet his end at Little Bighorn.
