Description

Collection of relics recovered and excavated from the Little Bighorn battlefield and its environs in 1982 by George E. 'Polka' Scott, who worked as a seasonal ranger at the Custer Battlefield National Monument (now Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument). Includes: eight pieces—a button, section of a crossed saber cavalry insignia, five cartridges, and one slug—attributed to the Godfrey Retreat; four 45-55 cartridges and one unfired Schofield .45 cartridge found just east of Medicine Tail Coulee; and three 45-55 cartridges, plus one 1854 tunic eagle button, recovered on the west bank of the Little Bighorn River, the area of Reno's crossing. Additionally includes three 45-55 cartridges found in the area of the Battle of Rosebud Creek, fought on June 17, 1876 between the United States Army and Lakota Sioux/Northern Cheyenne Indians. In overall very good to fine condition. Accompanied by notarized letters of provenance by George E. 'Polka' Scott, as well as a signed copy of his booklet "Fort Custer: 1877–1898, Then & Now."
