Noteworthy entries include the promotion of "Second Lieutenant George A. Custer, to be First Lieutenant, July 18, 1862, to fill an original vacancy," in Company M, Fifth Regiment of Cavalry; the death of Brig. Gen. Joseph K. Mansfield on "Sept. 18, 1862, of wounds received in the battle of Antietam"; and the death of Maj. Gen. Philip Kearny, "killed at the battle of Chantilly, Va., Sept. 1, 1862." In fine condition.
