Program for the eleventh day of the 1908 Olympic Games held in London, England, 4.75 x 7.25, July 24, 1908. The program lists the ten events for the day—including the marathon, wrestling, swimming, the pole vault, and relay races—as well as the names of participating athletes, the day’s music and fireworks schedules, general rules, records, and prizes. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, contemporary annotations inside, and the cover detached from the spine's upper staple.
The marathon event became infamous after Italian runner Dorando Pietri finished first but was subsequently disqualified. Succumbing to utter exhaustion at the end of the race, Pietri fell several times and was helped back to his feet by officials. Although he managed to finish in first place, Pietri was disqualified for receiving assistance and the gold medal was given to the runner-up, American distance runner Johnny Hayes.
