Knopf in 1997, signed and inscribed on the first free end page in ink, "Dear Polly—So I head back for NYC for a while, I remember when you & I left—at 2 a.m. rolling the brass-bed headboard down Riverside Dr. Funny about memories—some never fade at all—because I see that night as if it were just a few months ago.
