Two C. M. Bell cabinet portrait photographs of Grover Cleveland and his wife, Frances Cleveland, both 4.25 x 6.5, individually signed in ink, “Grover Cleveland, 1893” and “Frances F. Cleveland, 1886.” The two dates both align with the start of Cleveland’s first and second incumbencies, although only the Frances portrait can be safely attributed as being a White House signature, a distinction owing to the C. M. Bell publishing caption on the reverse, “This photograph, made and published by me, the first one of Mrs. Cleveland made since her marriage.” Frances married President Cleveland in the Blue Room of the White House on June 2, 1886. In overall fine condition, with some light scuffing and soiling.
