Description

Pamphlet entitled "An act of Parliament effecting a treaty between Great Britain and the Republic of Texas for the Suppression of the African Slave Trade. [11th April 1843]." London: Printed by George E. Eyre and Andrew Spottiswoode, Printers to the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, 1843. Extract bound without wrappers, 7.5 x 12, 16 pages [paginated 166–180, unpaginated first page]. In fine condition, with a couple tiny stains.

This Act of Parliament formalized a treaty between Great Britain and the Republic of Texas aimed at suppressing the African slave trade. The treaty authorized mutual rights of search and seizure of vessels suspected of participating in the transatlantic slave trade. This accord formed part of Britain’s broader diplomatic and maritime strategy to eradicate the slave trade through international legal instruments and cooperative enforcement measures.
