Autographs for Freedom, edited by Julia Griffiths and first published in 1853, is a powerful anthology of anti-slavery writings aimed at promoting the abolitionist cause in the United States. Compiled by Griffiths, a British abolitionist and close associate of Frederick Douglass, the book features writings from prominent activists, writers, and former slaves. Among the contributors were William H. Seward, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Horace Mann, Charles Sumner, Horace Greeley, and Frederick Douglass, each piece concluding with the author's facsimile signature. Through essays, poems, and personal testimonies, the collection sought to rally support for the anti-slavery movement and raise funds for Douglass's newspaper, The North Star.
