Hardcovers bound in the publisher's dark brown cloth with gilt-titled spine, 5.25 x 8, 452 and 442 pages, complete with its fold-out map of Texas following the table of contents in Vol. I. The work's complete title is: "Narrative of the Texan Santa Fe Expedition, comprising a description of a tour through Texas, and across the great southwestern prairies, the Camanche and Caygua hunting-grounds, with an account of the sufferings from want of food, losses from hostile Indians, and final capture of the Texans, and their march, as prisoners, to the city of Mexico. With illustrations and a map." Book condition: VG+/None, with marginal corner loss to a couple of pages and an ownership signature ("Aymar Van Buren") to the first free end page of Vol. I; the books are clean, tightly bound, and housed in a custom clamshell case, worn at the edges.

The Narrative of the Texan Santa Fe Expedition by George Wilkins Kendall, first published in 1844, is a firsthand account of a failed attempt by the Republic of Texas to establish control over Santa Fe, then part of Mexico, in 1841. As a journalist who joined the expedition, Kendall vividly recounts the hardships faced by the poorly organized group, including harsh terrain, betrayal, and eventual capture by Mexican forces. Kendall was released from imprisonment in 1842, as a result of intervention by influential friends.
