The finals of the 19th FIFA World Cup were held in South Africa between June 11 and July 11, 2010, marking the first time the event was hosted on the African continent. After an opening loss to Switzerland, the Spanish national team won their remaining six matches—including the Netherlands in the final match—to earn their first and only World Cup victory.
