Scarce official French-language booklet published by the Vth Olympic Winter Games Committee, 5 x 7.25, 50 pages, entitled: "Vèmes Jeux Olympiques d'Hiver, Sapporo 1940, Règlement Général et Programme." Complete with fold-out maps and diagrams of the Olympic grounds in the rear. In fine condition.
The 1940 Winter Olympics were originally awarded to Sapporo, Japan, marking the first time the Winter Games would have been held in Asia. However, Japan forfeited its hosting rights in 1938 due to the ongoing Second Sino-Japanese War. The Games were later reassigned to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, but ultimately canceled altogether because of the outbreak of World War II.
