Period 19th-century souvenir broadside for Edwin Booth’s stage debut as Tressel in Colley Cibber's version of Richard III at the Boston Museum on September 10, 1849, 6.75 x 14, which was presented to theatergoers who attended Booth’s 1886 performance of the same play at the same venue some 37 years later. Edwin made his stage debut at the age of 15, performing opposite his famous father, Junius Brutus Booth, who starred in the title role as Richard, Duke of Gloucester. The broadside, reads: “Last Night but Three of Mr. Booth’s Engagement, Shakespeare’s Tragedy, Richard Third, Duke of Gloster – Mr. Booth, Positively last time this season / Tressel, (his first appearance on any stage)…Edwin T. Booth.” The lower portion features an advertisement for a production of Othello, which starred “Mr. Booth” in the role of Iago. In fragile, very good to fine condition, with some minor paper loss along the edges.
