Historically significant original 14 x 22 public military notice broadside associated with Japanese internment, issued by J. L. DeWitt of the Western Defense Command and Fourth Army, dated May 22, 1942. Headed "Instructions to All Persons of Japanese Ancestry," the text directs those living in certain sections of Los Angeles to evacuate by "12 o'clock noon, P.W.T., Saturday, June 6, 1942," and to assemble for transport to detention camps. It gives specific directions to families about what they could take with them—household and personal items limited to "that which can be carried by the individual or family group," and asks that the head of the family report to the Civil Control Station for further instruction, referring to "Civilian Exclusion Order No. 86." In fine condition.
