Yellow 4.75 x 3 'Electoral Commission' admission pass to the gallery of the House of Representatives for "Counting the Vote for President and Vice-President” on February 22, 1877. The center bears an American flag with text: “Admit Bearer.” In fine condition, with small mounting remnants on the reverse. The 1876 presidential election ended with contested electoral votes in several southern states, and Congress formed a special commission to determine the result. The commission first met in the House Chamber on February 1, 1877, and ultimately—after several successive meetings—awarded Hayes with 185 electoral votes to Tilden's 184.
