Description

From the personal collection of legendary rock photographer Barry Feinstein—a pair of original vintage album cover test print proofs for Dr. John's 1972 ATCO Records album Dr. John's Gumbo, printed on slick lightweight stock with printer's marks in the borders. The 29.25 x 17.25 proof features the front and back covers, as well as the spine, showing Dr. John [Mac Rebennack] posing in front of a mural and atop barstools at a hot dog stand. The 17.25 x 33.25 proof features the gatefold image, with the New Orleans pianist standing at full length in formal attire, the track listing printed at lower left, with some typographical production notations penciled in. Rolled and in very good to fine condition, with creasing and tears to the edges, primarily affecting the blank margins.

Dr. John's Gumbo (1972) is a landmark album that celebrates and revives the rich musical heritage of New Orleans through energetic renditions of classic R&B and Mardi Gras tunes. By paying homage to local legends like Professor Longhair and Huey 'Piano' Smith, Dr. John helped introduce the infectious rhythms and spirit of New Orleans music to a broader, global audience. In 2012, the album was ranked number 404 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

From the personal collection of Barry Feinstein and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from his estate.
