Description

Two vintage circa 1930s dolls by the Knickerbocker Toy Company of New York, licensed for manufacture by Walt Disney Enterprises, both standing approximately 12˝ tall. Includes: a scarce, fantastic example of Mickey Mouse dressed in his Easter outfit—a red-and-blue jacket with floral boutonnière and a yellow bow tie—with red composite shoes and a chick in hand; and a classic example of Minnie Mouse dressed in her traditional pink polka-dot skirt, wearing red composite high-heeled shoes. Remarkably, both retain their original Knickebocker Toy Co. tags tied to their wrists; Mickey's is a partial tag, with the detached remnants included. A partial Knickerbocker tag also remains affixed to Mickey's left shoe. In overall good to very good condition, with noticeable wear from age, including a split seam at Mickey's nose (currently secured by brown thread), some other amateur seam repairs, chips and wear to shoes, one of Minnie's eyes worn and peeling, and pulling to the body of the chick in Mickey's hand; both stand unbalanced, with a learn forward. A delightful pairing of scarce, well-loved Disney dolls.

In the 1930s, the Knickerbocker Toy Company was licensed by Disney to produce some of the earliest Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse dolls. These dolls became immensely popular amidst the Great Depression, and their success helped establish Disney's characters as enduring icons in American popular culture.
