Two autographs of historic Democratic leaders: a ballpoint signature of John F. Kennedy on an off-white 2 x 2 slip, and an ink signature of Eleanor Roosevelt on an off-white 4.5 x 1.5 sheet clipped from the close of a typed letter. Both are matted with an original semi-glossy 10.25 x 10.5 silver gelatin photograph of Kennedy and Roosevelt by Dr. David Gurewitsch, which shows JFK visiting the former first lady at Val-Kill Cottage, now the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site. The photo was originally taken on August 14, 1960, when Kennedy visited Hyde Park as well as Val-Kill. Kennedy's aims in visiting Hyde Park were twofold: he was tasked to deliver a 25th anniversary speech commemorating FDR's creation of the Social Security program; and, more importantly, to gather Roosevelt’s endorsement for his presidential campaign; Kennedy had secured the Democratic Party presidential nomination a month earlier. Framed to an overall size of 16.5 x 18.25. In overall fine condition, with light toning and wrinkling to the JFK slip.
