Description

Extremely rare black satin bomber jacket from the Bee Gees' 1979 Spirits Having Flown Tour of North America, featuring a large, finely embroidered "Spirits Having Flown" emblem on the back, with "North American Tour '79" in white below. The jacket features a zip-down placket, two slash pockets trimmed in black, and "LP Designs by Mary Bassel" maker's tag sewn inside the placket, with adjacent size "5" [medium] tag. In fine condition. Distribution of this jacket was limited exclusively to the band, crew, and tour management. Originates from the collection of a tour manager who worked for Concerts West in the 1970s, and subsequently as an independent contractor providing tour management and entertainment accounting services in the early 1980s.

The Bee Gees' 1979 Spirits Having Flown tour marked the height of their disco-era dominance, following the massive success of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and their album Spirits Having Flown. The most ambitious tour the Bee Gees ever embarked on, it featured elaborate stage productions, dazzling lighting, and tight harmonies that showcased their musical versatility. The tour drew enormous crowds across the U.S. and Canada, solidifying the Bee Gees' status as global superstars and one of the defining acts of the late '70s.
