Two TLSs from Warren E. Burger to longtime Georgia Congressman Jack Brinkley, both one page, personal Supreme Court letterhead, 7.25 x 9.5 and 8 x 10.5, December 1, 1971, and March 23, 1981. The earlier letter, in part: “Thank you for your letter of November 23 inviting me to speak to a group of Jaycees from Georgia at their 11th Annual Federal Seminar in Washington on March 24 and 25. These dates fall in the middle of a two-weeks' period of argument, with a Court Conference scheduled on the 24th. I regret I am unable to add any additional commitments to my calendar at that time as I fully appreciate the interest of these young people in our government.”
The second letter, in part: “Recently I gave a Member a tour of the museum in the lower Great Hall of the Supreme Court. He was very pleased and said that although he had been in Congress more than 20 years, he had not been aware that we had established a museum on Court history in 1970. He suggested that many, if not most, Members were unaware that such interesting exhibits are available 200 yards from the Capitol and the House and Senate Office Buildings. He assured me he would urge visiting constituents that a visit to the Court was well worthwhile and suggested I inform other Members that we have tours available. His comment prompts me to call your attention to our present exhibits which include one on Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes and one on historic photographs of the former courts.” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope for the 1981 letter.
