Civil War-era cartridge box with US regulation 1839 pattern enlisted man's oval cartridge box plate, with dark chocolate brown patina with smooth face and letter style reflecting early or pre-war manufacture. The cartridge box itself, manufactured by W. Oliver of Pittsburgh, has soft and pliable leather despite some surface flaking and wear; the leather closure strap is broken.
