Two TLSs from Evelyn Lincoln, the personal secretary to President John F. Kennedy, both one page, 6.25 x 9.25, White House letterhead, both addressed to Terence J. Dodson. Of considerable interest is the historic date of the earlier letter, November 22, 1963, the very day that President Kennedy was killed by assassin bullets as his motorcade drove through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. The letter reads: “This is to acknowledge and thank you for your letter. In response to your request, the envelopes enclosed were signed for Teoman Sirri. They are returned with the President’s best wishes to you both.” The second letter, June 22, 1964, in full: “President Johnson's personal secretary, Mrs. Juanita Roberts, passed along to me the letter and enclosure you directed to her. Much as I would like to be helpful, I regret that because of the lapse of time it is not possible for me to say whether or not the letter to you dated November 22, 1963, is the last one I wrote on behalf of President Kennedy.” In overall fine condition. The earlier letter, despite its everyday content, takes on a poignant, practically haunting quality given its date and timeframe that feels like the calm before the storm; the letter was evidently written before Kennedy was shot, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. that day.
