From the personal collection of Apollo 14 moonwalker Edgar Mitchell—a Navy Distinguished Service Medal, featuring a 1.25˝ gilt bronze medallion suspended from a blue-and-yellow ribbon, housed in its hinged case; and a certificate promoting him to commander in the United States Navy, one page, 10 x 13.75, April 30, 1971, with autopen signatures of Vice Admiral Dick H. Guinn and Secretary of the Navy John H. Chafee at the conclusion. In part: "Know ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities of Edgar D. Mitchell, I do, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, appoint him a Commander, United States Navy." The certificate is matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 18.5. In overall fine condition.
Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Karlyn Mitchell, the daughter of Edgar Mitchell.
