University of North Carolina honorary certificate awarded to Edgar Mitchell, signed by Chancellor J. Carlyle Sitterson and Morehead Planetarium Director A. F. Jenzano, one page, 14.5 x 11, no date but circa late 1960s–early 1970s. In full: "The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill honors Edgar D. Mitchell for academic diligence under the classroom dome of The Morehead Planetarium in quest for orbits of higher achievement. And, in recognition thereof does confer the status of Alumnus and Tarheel with all rights and privileges pertaining." The gold foil seal of the university is affixed at lower left. Framed to an overall size of 16 x 12.5. In fine condition.

Between 1960 and 1975, Tony Jenzano oversaw celestial navigation training for 62 NASA astronauts at Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Apollo 14 LMP Edgar Mitchell learned to navigate by the stars at training sessions there in June 1966, September 1967, and February 1969.





Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Karlyn Mitchell, the daughter of Edgar Mitchell.
