Resolution of the State of Pennsylvania signed by Secretary of the Senate Mark Gruell, Jr., one page, 7.75 x 12.75, May 3, 1971, recognizing Edgar Mitchell's achievements and recognition by Carnegie Mellon University with an honorary degree. In full: "Whereas, at graduation exercises to be held at Carnegie-Mellon University on Monday, May 17, Captain Edgar D. Mitchell, the astronaut, an alumnus of Carnegie-Mellon and a member of the Delta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Sigma there, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by his alma mater; and whereas, following the commencement exercises, Captain Mitchell, Lunar Module Pilot on the recent Apollo 14 mission will be honored at a reception and dinner sponsored jointly by the Alumni Association of the University and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity; therefore be it resolved, that the Senate of Pennsylvania congratulates the Apollo 14 Lunar Module Pilot, Captain Edgar D. Mitchell on his being honored by his alma mater, Carnegie-Mellon University, by its conferring upon him of a doctorate at its 1971 graduation exercises on May 17, 1971 and by the dinner and reception following the exercises to be given him by the University's Alumni Association and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity; and be it further resolved, that a copy of this resolution be delivered to Captain Edgar D.
