From the personal collection of Apollo 14 moonwalker Edgar Mitchell—a Carnegie Mellon Alumni Association "Distinguished Achievement" award with its accompanying certificate. The award trophy measures approximately 6.5˝ x 5.25˝ x 8.25˝, and features a three-pronged pyramid form over a "Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Association" medallion with central finial; an engraved plaque on the front reads: "For Distinguished Achievement, Edgar D. Mitchell, I.M. '52, October 15, 1971." The accompanying hand-illuminated certificate, 7.5 x 9.5, reads, in part: "Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Association bestows the Distinguished Achievement Awards on Edgar D. Mitchell of the Class of 1952, in recognition of his accomplishments as an astronaut and engineer, whose courage, intelligence, and dedication to scientific progress have led to new knowledge of the universe, and have won a lasting distinction not only for himself but for Carnegie-Mellon, and for the nation. October 15, 1971." Framed to an overall size of 15 x 17.75. In overall fine condition, with wear to the award.
