Contemporary brad-bound photocopy "Revised Third Draft" screenplay for an unproduced version of the classic Rambo movie First Blood, 8.5 x 11, 130 pages, with the cover page reading: "'First Blood' by Walter Newman, Revised Third Draft, February 20, 1974," stamped, "File Copy, Do Not Remove" and "Important, Return to Warner Bros. Inc., Burbank, Calif., Story Library." In very good to fine condition, with light wear and soiling.
Walter Newman's unproduced script for First Blood was an early adaptation of David Morrell's 1972 novel. Unlike the later 1982 film starring Sylvester Stallone, Newman's version stayed closer to the book's darker tone and tragic ending, portraying Rambo as a deeply damaged Vietnam veteran and ending with his death. Written in the 1970s, the script emphasized psychological tension and social critique over action spectacle, but it was ultimately shelved in favor of more commercially viable versions. Newman's take remains a fascinating glimpse at what could have been a much grittier and more faithful adaptation.
