Handsome oversized hand-colored 16.5 x 22.5 engraving entitled "The Last Meeting," showing Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson together on horseback, captioned in the lower border: "The Last Meeting of Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson at dawn on the day of the Battle of Chancellorsville, May 2nd 1863." Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 25.5 x 30.5, with an affixed caption on the reverse: "General Lee on his warhorse Traveler and General Jackson on Little Sorrell, confer at the Battle of Chancellorsville. The evening of this meeting 'Stonewall' Jackson was mortally wounded. General Lee never saw Jackson again but personally lamented that he had lost 'his right arm.' Artist E.B.D. Julio, along with engraver Fred Halpin, created one of the most popular works to come out of the Civil War. By raising funds from the sale of this engraving, Julio hoped to be able to present his earlier original painting to General Robert E. Lee as a gift." In fine condition.
