The Apple IIc, released in April 1984, was Apple Computer’s first endeavor to produce a portable computer—it was essentially a complete Apple II squeezed into a smaller housing, and the 'c' stood for 'compact.' To enhance the computer's portability, Apple introduced its first LCD screen, the Apple IIc Flat Panel Display, featuring an 80x24 monochrome display with double hi-res graphics. However, subpar performance—namely, a distorted aspect ratio and poor contrast—combined with a $600 retail price, led to low sales and eventual discontinuation. Around 10,000 of the LCD displays were produced.
