Rare original issue of Inc. magazine from October 1981, 8.25 x 11, the front cover featuring a color image of Steve Jobs leaning on an Apple II Plus computer, with the lead article headline to the left reading: “This Man Has Changed Business Forever: What personal computers can do you for you.” Caption text to bottom: “Apple Computer Chairman Steve Jobs.” In fine condition, with slight wear to edges, and a small crease to collar area. Encapsulated by CGC with a grade of 5.5 (OFF-WHITE TO WHITE pages). In 1981, Inc. became the first national magazine to put Steve Jobs on its cover—a rare issue that represents the only example in the CGC population report.
Although Apple Computer was the darling of Wall Street and was quickly becoming one of the hottest companies of the era, its young co-founder and CEO had yet to find himself on the cover of a magazine. That all changed with the October issue of Inc., a publication self-described as ‘The Magazine for Growing Companies.’ Posed with an Apple II Plus, the 26-year-old Steve Jobs is pictured on the cover sans tie and wearing blue jeans and a corduroy jacket, a far cry from the public image Jobs would later famously project. Issues of this Inc. magazine are exceedingly rare and remain among the most prized of all of the tech debut covers.
