Massive World War II-dated two-sheet color poster for ‘New England United Against War,’ an event headlined by Charles Lindbergh at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 12, 1941, as part of a rally sponsored by the America First Committee. Printed by the Buck Printing Co. of Boston, the patriotically colored poster measures 57.5 x 45 (the sheets individually measure 28.75 x 45) and features large bold text: “New England United Against War, Charles A. Lindbergh, U. S. Senator Gerald P. Nye, and Others, Boston Garden, Admission Free.” In very good condition, with creasing, soiling, staining, and some paper loss long the intersecting folds.
In 1941, American icon Charles Lindbergh began touring the U.S. as the leading voice of the America First Committee (AFC), an isolationist pressure group against the United States' entry into World War II that held a group of some 800,000 members. However, the AFC was controversial for the anti-Semitic and pro-fascist views of some of its most prominent speakers, leaders, and members. After the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, the Committee canceled the rally with Lindbergh at Boston Garden ‘in view of recent critical developments,’ and the organization ultimately announced their support of the war effort.
