Original vintage glossy 10 x 8.25 U.S. Army Signal Corps photograph of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill greeting American President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the start of the Second Quebec Conference (codenamed ‘OCTAGON’), a high-level military conference held in Quebec City during World War II from September 12-16, 1944. The reverse bears a Signal Corps photo credit stamp. In fine condition. Encapsulated by PSA as an authentic "Type I" photograph.
At these meetings, the participants discussed a multitude of issues related to the invasion of France, including the progress of Operation Neptune, the cross-Channel portion of Operation Overlord; the use of Mulberry harbors (portable artificial harbors off the Normandy coast that served as temporary ports for Allied shipping after D-Day); and Operation Dragoon, the invasion of southern France. For the Pacific theater, the extent of British participation in the war against Japan was deliberated. One key discussion centered around the Burma campaign, including Operation Dracula, the airborne and amphibious attack on Rangoon. Perhaps the most far-reaching exchange, however, concerned the allocation of postwar occupation zones in Germany.
