American poet (1790-1867) notable for his satires and as one of the Knickerbocker Group. ALS, one page, 5 x 7.25, August 13, 1867. Handwritten letter to Malcolm Townsend, in part: "I have had the honor of receiving your letter…& am grateful for your kind wish to possess my Autograph." In fine condition, with a tiny hole to the lower right corner. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
