Description

Zane Grey’s personal ‘Memorandum’ notebook, 3.5 x 6, containing 10 pages of handwritten instructions for his wife, Lina “Dolly” Roth, which he prepared before he left on an extended trip in early 1927. The inside front cover, which bears two of Grey’s embossed stamps, bears an ANS in pencil, signed “Doc, December 26, 1926, 7:30 P.M.” The handwritten note reads: “Dear Dolly, Be good, and if you can’t be good, be careful.” The notes, which are written in both pencil and ink, concern the payment and nonpayment of bills, as well as the receipt of payment and plans for projects related to the story The Avalanche, the film Drums of the Desert, and the novels Forlorn River, Stairs of Sand, Tappan's Burro, and Under the Tonto Rim. In fine condition, with an old tape to a tear on the front cover.
