Description

Politician (1823–1878) most notable for being the 'boss' of Tammany Hall, the Democratic Party political machine that played a major role in the politics of 19th-century New York. Partly-printed DS, signed “W. M. Tweed,” one page, 8.25 x 6.75, 1864. City of New-York pay order in the amount of $83.33 "on account of the appropriation for Contingencies, Street Department," signed at the conclusion in ink by 'Boss' Tweed as New York's Deputy Street Commissioner. Attractively cloth-matted and framed with a plaque to an overall size of 16 x 20.25. In fine condition.
