Mechanical analog computer built for use with the Norden bombsight, mounted on a display stand to an overall size of 8.25″ x 11″ x 11″. The rear features a Burroughs Adding Machine Co. identification plate, reading: "U.S. Army Air Forces Rate End Computer, Type P-1, Serial No. B-406, Contract No. AC-8413, Spec. No. R24983." The attached radar converter unit is marked: "CP-17/APA-46, 1880, CAQM, 2039-DAY-DE." In fine condition.
A similar example is displayed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The museum's description notes that Norden bombsight device used a mechanical analog computer comprising electric motors, gyros, mirrors, bubble levels, gears, and a small telescope.
