Description

Group lot of items related to the Apollo 11 crew’s ticker-tape parade in Chicago, Illinois, on August 13, 1969, to celebrate their safe return and successful moon-landing mission. The items include: four admission passes for an ‘Official Party’ honoring the Apollo 11 crew at the Civic Center Plaza, each 5.5 x 3.5, marked in the upper right corner; a typed letter from the City of Chicago, August 9, 1969, sent to “Special Guests” of the “Apollo 11 Welcome program”; an 8.5 x 14 itinerary sheet for the “Special Assembly to Honor the Apollo 11 Astronauts and National Aeronautics and Space Agency, Participated in By Mayor Richard J. Daley and the Members of the Chicago City Council”; an original glossy 10 x 8 photo of the Apollo 11 crew riding through Chicago during the parade; and a Christmas card from Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley. Also included are a 4″ embroidered Apollo 11 insignia patch (Universal Commemorative), an Apollo 11 decal, an invitation for an Apollo 11 launch reception at The Holiday Inn in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and an invitation for an Apollo 11 splashdown party at the Marriott Motor Hotel in Houston, Texas. In overall fine condition.

From the collection of Alfred and Carolyn (Shearon) Trude, the latter of whom was the sister of Neil Armstrong’s first wife, Janet Shearon.
