Two items: an original Playbill for the opening of the musical La Cage aux Folles at the Palace Theatre in New York City in 1983, 106 pages, 5.5 x 8.5, signed and inscribed in ballpoint on the front cover, “Best to Matt, Jerry Herman,” which also bears two affixed ticket stubs for a performance at the Palace Theatre on December 24, 1983; and a glossy 8 x 10 photo of Herman in a handsome front-facing pose, signed in think black felt tip by Herman, who adds a desirable four-bar musical quotation from his popular song ‘I Am What I Am.’ In overall fine condition. The original production of La Cage aux Folles ran for more than four years (1,761 performances), and won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.
