As commander of Fort Crawford, Taylor reports on the arrival of new recruits

LS signed “Z. Taylor Col., 1st Regt. U. S. Infy., Comdg.,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, August 26, 1834. Letter written from Fort Crawford, in part: "On the 17th Inst: 100 recruits reached here from the Eastern Department…under the comd. of Capt. S. Munroe of the Art'y, sixty six for this post & thirty five for Fort Snelling & nine were received by a steam boat from Saint Louis…Those for this post including the nurse from St. Louis were inspected on the 1st and attached to companies—and those for Fort Snelling were dispatched in Mackinac Boats." In fine condition, with toning from prior display. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
