French painter and sculptor (1824-1904) remembered for bringing the Academic painting tradition to an artistic climax. Two ALSs in French, both signed “J. L. Gerome,” each one page, 4 x 5 and 5.25 x 8.25, one undated and one dated July 9, 1880. Both untranslated. In overall fine condition, with a split to the central horizontal fold of the 1880 letter.
