Gold-plated, 12 gm, 31 mm x 44 mm, depicting a classical horse and rider above Olympic rings. The medallion is suspended from a yellow and blue ribbon that measures 45 mm in length; the ribbon lacks its pin.
The main 1956 Summer Games were held in Melbourne, Australia, but the equestrian events could not be held there due to quarantine regulations; Stockholm was chosen as the alternative site. The equestrian events began in June, nearly six months earlier than the official opening ceremonies in Melbourne.
