American statesman (1782-1866) who served variously as governor of Michigan, senator, ambassador to France, secretary of war, and secretary of state. Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 5 x 3.25, filled out in the hand of Lewis Cass and postmarked at Washington, July 16, no year, addressed to "Hon. James D. Daly, Green Bay, Wisconsin,” and franked in the upper right corner, "Free, Lew Cass." In very good to fine condition, with light soiling and a central vertical fold. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder, grading the autograph as "NM-MT 8.”
